Design Build Create - Our Project Process
by Meghan McNamara
We have the pleasure of working with clients who have lived in their beloved homes for decades. They understand the intricacies of the spaces, how the sun plays across the kitchen counter in the morning or the long shadows of late afternoon in the yard. We strive to understand what they treasure about their homes and take note of what they wish was different.
We also work with clients to renovate and personalize a home that is completely new to them. And finally, we work with clients operating from a clean slate, building from the ground up, creating something unique and meaningful for them.
On this site, the client knew the way the breeze came off the ocean, the warmth of the south-facing porch, and the shade of the Japanese Maple; however, they were looking to build something new. Together we imagined a new home on a familiar piece of land, one that was informed by lifestyle and values and designed to accommodate both current and future needs.
Our longstanding relationships with our subcontractors and consultants promote a collaborative process that yields the best possible results for our clients. Capitalizing on the expertise of the team from design through construction ensures that the outcome of our work aligns with the goals of the client.
The client insisted on the ability to climb out onto the roof to look at the stars. With the advice of our roofing subcontractor, structural engineer, building science consultant, and site supervisor the details came together. The view is spectacular.
Landmark Lane features the natural elements of the site in a playful way through framed views, materials, and spatial relationships. The path from the lane, through the landscape, and into the house is a spatial experience intended to highlight the beauty of the surroundings.
We crafted the experience with clients in the design process through models, drawings, and sketches. Seeing that journey unfold on the actual site is a tremendously gratifying experience for those of us who imagined it and an exciting discovery for those who are constructing it.
